2(0)18 days to UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 – Spanish futsal star Miguelín joining the Slovenian futsal community in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 16 June 2018 – On 26 June, 218 days before the biggest futsal competition in Slovenian history commences, the Local Organising Committee is preparing a record-braking futsal relay and a prestigious evening with a special guest, UEFA.com’s Golden Player at the last UEFA Futsal EURO in Belgrade, 31 year-old Miguel Sayago Martí, known as Miguelín in the futsal world.

Miguelín won his second European title in Belgrade, where he also shared the Golden Shoe, awarded to the best scorer of UEFA Futsal EURO 2016. Spain have already qualified for the tournament in Slovenia. They will once again be one of the favourites to win this prestigious title.

In an interview for UEFA Futsal EURO 2018, Miguelín expressed his wish to play Slovenia in the final and that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not necessarily the only football idols for children. One of the biggest global icons of the sport will also launch the seven kilometre-long futsal relay, where more than 150 participants from the Slovenian futsal community (members of the national team, young players, coaches, referees and other prominent supporters) will dribble the UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 futsal ball from the official countdown clock in the city centre of the Slovenian capital and Ljubljana Town Hall to Arena Stožice, the venue where UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 will be held from 30 January to 10 February 2018.

Miguelín will join another highlight of the evening, the 2(0)18 days to go futsal match. In the match the ambassadors of UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 – the best ever Slovenian futsal player, Milivoje Simeunović, and a member of the Slovenian football generation that qualified for the UEFA EURO and the FIFA World Cup for the first time, international star Milenko Ačimović – will select the teams and play with members of Slovenian media.

In front of Arena Stožice that evening there will be a U13 futsal match between pupils from Ljubljana and Belgrade primary schools, another example of symbolically passing the torch from Serbia to Slovenia. Ljubljana is ready for the 11th UEFA Futsal EURO.
